A year long Anti-Bullying that helps students deal with conflict without violence. For more information see Anti-Bully Program page.

Stomp out Anti-Bullying

Stomp (or stepping) instruction from Darin Kyle (DK Workshops) is a dance style that has been refined in recent years. However,  the dance form has a history tracing back to the late 19th century on the African Continent.  With survival as motivation the workers in the slave trade developed new methods of communication.  These methods were subtle and fundamentally gave them free speech at a time when a slave could experience physical harm for speaking out loud.

In the Anti-Bullying format students receive a condensed history of Stomp and its very close link to the methods of bullying used today (Physical, Verbal, Cyber / Reputation bullying).  Great emphasis is placed on the necessity of communication in order to reduce bullying.

Next the students are led by Mr. Kyle in a Stomp routine.  This makes up the majority of the presentation.  The primary focus is to get students working together with class and school mates in order to accomplish a common goal.  By learning the stomp routine students accomplish this goal through the vehicle of dance.  At the same time they learn another mode of communication… RHYTHM!!! Through this mode students learn how to think outside their own head by learning the importance of those around them.

Workshop Details

Workshops need only 2 operational electrical outlets for power and a Gym or large open space sufficient for 60 students to move around and exercise.

All workshops correspond directly to the individual school’s blocks of time.  For example:  four blocks means four workshop sessions.

Each workshop session can take up to 60 students.  For example: In a four block day 240 students  are able to take part.

Dance

Darin Kyle (DK Workshops) offers instruction in STOMP dance classes that follow the Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines in the fine arts.  Through his unique combination of music, fitness, fun and engaging personality Darin takes your classes through a journey in the Fine Arts that none will soon forget.  The only tool the students need is the body.  By using their hands, arms, feet and legs classes will gain, not only instruction in dance, but, also a fine introduction to music and musicality proven to appeal to young men and women of all ages and cultures. And due to the simplicity of the art all can participate.
